Vampires, werewolves, witches, shapeshifters -- they live among us without our knowledge. Night World is their secret society, a secret society with very strict rules. And falling in love breaks all the laws of the Night World.

In Secret Vampire, Poppy thought the summer would last forever. Then she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now Poppy's only hope for survival is James, her friend and secret love. A vampire in the Night World, James can make Poppy immortal. But first they both must risk everything to go against the laws of Night World.

Fugitives from Night World, three vampire sisters leave their isolated home to live among humans in Daughters of Darkness. Their brother, Ash, is sent to bring the girls back, but he falls in love with their beautiful friend.

Two witch cousins fight over their high school crush. It's a battle between black magic and white magic in Spellbinder.

I really enjoyed the books that were in this first volume for the Night World series. I thought that the three stories were light and fun and exactly what I needed for a quick read. For each book in the volume, the same theme did occur - someone who belongs to the Night World falls in love with their "soul mate" causing them to break the laws of said world and must figure out a way to escape their predicament without severe consequences. One of the reasons I rated it a 4/5 was because by the time I got to Spellbinder the theme was definitely starting to feel overdone, but the stories were able to make up for what felt like a broken record. Another thing is that Smith's style of writing may be slightly cheesy at times (you won't find literary gold in these pages) but she was still able to tell cute and fun stories. I found myself turning the pages and not wanting to set it down. I also want to just say that in this book I am 100% team Ash. *squeal* Who doesn't love a bad boy vampire?? He reminded me of Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries and I enjoyed every single moment with him in the story. I can't wait to see if he appears more in the next two volumes. All in all, Night World No. 1 was an enjoyable read that I may find myself re-reading in the future.
